Based on a true story that took place in Durham in 1971, the film remembers the events that led to the integration of public schools and a strange friendship. Ann Atwater, an African-American activist and organizer in the community and Claiborne C.P. Ellis, the head of Ku Klux Klan start a fierce battle, one to get rights for African Americans, the other to prevent them. But the events will lead to an unexpected result, between the two giving birth and a friendship that lasted more than 30 years.
