Life in Texas during the Great Depression is very difficult. Farmers who come to work the land are struck by drought and the fury of nature. Eugene is a boy who belongs to such a family of farmers. He leads his life without events in a dull village, dreaming of being like the villains he reads in the books he steals. Suddenly, the city is disturbed by the appearance of a bank robber, Allison Wells, pursued by law enforcement and with a reward on her head that could save any farmer on the verge of eviction from his home. Injured, Allison arrives at the barn of Eugene’s parents’ farm, and Eugene stumbles upon her. Put in this situation, Eugene is forced to weigh the weight of the reward with Allison’s beauty and the lies she serves him.
