Columbus, Tallahasse, Wichita and Little Rock are heading for the heart of America, as they face evolved zombies, other survivors, and the growing challenges of their own makeshift family. After a dispute between Columbus and Wichita creates a deep family breakup, causing Little Rock to leave with a strange man, the group must come together to find and improve their family ties. Facing new types of zombies along the way, the group is forced to adjust their strategies until they encounter an incredible new hunter, known as Nevada. However, above all, they will have to try to deal with the inconvenience of living among these creatures.
