In an older apartment in Copenhagen, a group of craftsmen make a worrying discovery. Behind a false wall there are three mummified bodies lying around a table. Carl Mørck and Assad of the Q department now have the mission to find out what happened to those people and for whom a fourth chair was seated. She soon finds out that the former residents of the apartment worked at a hospital in Sprogø Island, where force was shed, that was a routine practice at that time for women who were brought to the hospital. The horrors spent in that hospital are a black chapter in the history of Denmark, but there are people who claim that these practices continue today. Carl and Assad start a race against the clock to prevent new crimes and attacks on women.
