Young William Kamkwamba lives with his family in rural Malawi, where he regularly attends school and shows an increased interest in his studies. However, when famine hits the village and alarm the community, William is forced to give up school when his father stops paying his taxes. Determined to find a way out of the life-threatening situation of his family, William sneaks into the school library for research and soon plans to build a wind turbine to irrigate the earth. Caught between his father’s rigid skepticism and the difficulty of creating a mechanism in bicycle parts and material scraps, William starts in a contracronometer race, fighting for the survival of his community. William’s story captures the incredible determination of a boy whose curious mind has overcome any obstacle in his path.
