This documentary presents the remarkable story of women who were tested for a space flight in 1961, but their dreams of becoming the first women to travel beyond the Earth were shattered. The men chosen – all military test pilots – became known as Mercury 7. But besides the reflectors of the press, behind the very closed doors, the pilot women were in turn tested. 13 of them passed the tests well, in some cases getting even better performances than men, being called Mercury 13. Although they were qualified to get the job, they did not have the right chromosome, preferring men to their detriment.
