Bel Canto

At a luxurious party at the home of the South American vice president, he raises a guerrilla team taking hostages to all guests, including Japanese industrialist Katsumi Hosokawa, soprano venerated by Roxanne Coss and French ambassador Simon Thibault. A representative of the Red Cross, Joackim Messner and guerrilla leader Benjamin, negotiates with the businessman’s Gender translator the terms in which the events will continue. As the attempt stretches over several months, hostages and kidnappers get to know each other better, learn foreign languages, learn to play chess, and even learn to sing. Bel Canto is a highly emotional, moderately violent drama that has messages of courage, empathy and common humor, and is based on Ann Patchett’s award-winning novel, which seems to have been inspired by real events.
