A young man named Endel Nelis arrives in Haapsalu, Estonia, the Soviet Union in 1952. Endel had to leave Leningrad to escape the secret police. Endel finds a job at a school in the city and set up a sports club for its students where they are to teach fencing, one of his greatest passions. Disapprovingly, the school begins to investigate his past Endel. Children, fencing becomes a way of expression, Endel rapidly becoming a role model, a father figure. Most children orphaned in the Russian occupation. When children want to participate in a national fencing tournament in Leningrad, Endel is forced to take a difficult decision: or it will risk putting you down to safety first?
